For many NFL fans, the best way to watch a big game like Sunday's NFC Championship between the 49ers and the Atlanta Falcons is with a small group of friends and family.
And often the best place is your house or a friend's house, especially with the soaring popularity of big screens and high-definition broadcasts.
But if you prefer to be among the cheering crowds and want to venture out for Sunday's big game, here are a few options:
• Firestone Public House, 1132 16th St.: If you like an energetic group, this hip spot features 60 beers on tap and 16 flat screens. Get there early (opens at 9 a.m.) – it will be packed.
• Clubhouse 56, 723 56th St.: It has one of the biggest screens we've ever seen, a neighborhood vibe and breakfast starting at 9 a.m.
• Bisla's, 7042 Folsom Blvd.: This popular spot was voted Sacramento's top sports bar for 2012 in KCRA's A List.
• Players, 4060 Sunrise Blvd., Fair Oaks: With 36 TVs, there's not a bad seat in the house.
• B.J's, multiple locations: If you're looking for a place that's a bit more mellow, try one of the five area locations (Arden Fair, Natomas, Elk Grove, Folsom and Roseville). Great brunch plus specials in the bar during NFL games.
What to watch
NBA, L.A. Clippers at Minnesota, 5 p.m.; Miami at L.A. Lakers, 7:30 p.m., TNT: With this doubleheader, Thursday night's still must-see TV.
