Re "Mayor to take bid to NBA" (Page A1, Jan. 16): Doesn't Mayor Kevin Johnson get it? The people are tired of all this Kings drama.
It seems the mayor's only job is chase after the Kings. How much city resources have been wasted in this boondoggle already?
I'm not against saving the Kings, but not at taxpayer expense. Chipping in $285 million dollars by leasing downtown parking is still using city funds to pay for the Kings. The people have already voted against this. $285 million would go a long way to hire more police or helping the homeless population.
If private investors are found who would fund the entire effort of buying the Kings and building a downtown arena, then go for it. Otherwise, any scenario that includes city funds or potential city revenue should be submitted to the voters for approval.
