Woodland-based Nugget Market Inc. again made Fortune magazine's annual "100 Best Companies to Work For" list, coming in at No. 37.
Nugget was ranked eighth in 2011 and 34th in 2012.
For a second straight year, Mountain View-based Google Inc. took the No. 1 spot.
Other California firms on the list, released today, include Sunnyvale-based NetApp Inc. (sixth), San Diego-based Qualcomm Inc. (11), DreamWorks Animation in Glendale (12), Redwood City-based DPR Construction (15), San Francisco-based Salesforce.com (19), Intuit Inc. in Mountain View (22), San Francisco-based Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants (28), South San Francisco-based Genentech (36), San Jose-based Cisco (42), Scripps Health in San Diego (43), Autodesk Inc. in San Rafael (54), Santa Clara-based Hitachi Data Systems (63), Intel Corp. in Santa Clara (68) and Mattel Inc. in El Segundo (96).
Portland, Ore.-based Umpqua Bank, which has branches throughout the Sacramento region, was listed 55th.
Numerous factors go into picking the top 100 among hundreds of U.S. firms, with tens of thousands employees surveyed annually. Factors include management credibility, job satisfaction, workplace atmosphere, pay, benefits, hiring practices, training, employee-recognition programs and diversity efforts.
