Re "NRA again becomes obstacle to public safety" (Editorials, Jan. 17): Wrongheaded NRA leadership ignores its more common-sense membership. Most members are perfectly comfortable with reasonable regulations meant to keep weapons used in massacres out of the hands of those, unlike themselves, who shouldn't have access to them.
It beats me why reasonable NRA member don't quit the now bizarrely driven, out-of-control NRA and form some sort of organization that listens to its members and works to improve, rather than to undermine, gunowner relationships with the rest of society.
Gun owners should turn the phrase "gun control" to something positive by showing the rest of us they can, indeed, control themselves and those who speak for them.
They could call the new organization S.A.F.E. for Society of American Firearms Enthusiasts, or something like it to show what they are really about.
