A warm inversion layer aloft and cooler air trapped at the lowest elevations will continue to provide cold mornings and warm days through the three-day Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend.
A high of 61 degrees is forecast for today in Sacramento, which is 7 degrees above normal for mid-January. Friday morning was cold, with the mercury dipping to 28 degrees at Sacramento's Executive Airport. This morning's low is expected to be 32 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
Looking ahead to next week, the weather service is forecasting the arrival of a weak frontal system, scheduled to arrive along the coast Wednesday morning before spreading inland in the afternoon and evening.
The system could bring some light rain.
