Re "Mayor needs a buzzer beater" (Page A1, Jan. 22): It is time for Sacramento to say goodbye to the Kings and wish them well.
The city will be poorer without them but it is time to accept that they will be gone when the NBA season begins this fall.
To his great credit, Mayor Kevin Johnson has done everything possible to keep the team here. He should be recognized now and always as the mayor who did his darndest to keep professional basketball in Sacramento; not the one who lost the Kings.
Unless the mayor has something in the works that has both a realistic chance of keeping the team in Sacramento and a financially sound plan of building a downtown arena, he, too, should accept what appears now to be fait accompli and turn his attention back to the many pressing issues of the city.
