Re "New State Fair boss promises bigger fun" (Editorials, Jan. 22): If you've never had occasion,to discuss with Cal Expo about the fees for doing business at a weekend event, you've missed a real eye-opener. Having had that experience, I'm convinced that those who run the fair care nothing about the local economy, only their bottom line.
I'm a classic-car enthusiest. It has been my hobby for the past 60 years. My cars have appeared in both national and local publications. In addition, I belong to two worldwide car organizations. One is the National Street Rod Association, which has conducted a show at Cal Expo for the last 11 years, with 1,180 cars from almost every state. Think of the hotels, restaurants, gas stations, etc. the participants used.
Not any more. Cal Expo's exorbitant fees caused NSRA not to return in 2013. Sorry local businesses and former employees. Thank Cal Expo.
