Re "One possibly futile gesture to keep the Kings" (Dan Morain, Jan. 23): I'm stunned that Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, D-Sacramento, is looking into California's dealings with Microsoft. The reason for the government probe? Microsoft's CEO, Steve Ballmer, is part of a consortium looking to purchase the Sacramento Kings and move the team to Seattle Washington.
I am a Kings fan, but I cannot accept this misguided "help" from a very powerful state official. At what point in our culture did we begin to accept the notion that political extortion is a legitimate form of governmental policy?
We have all heard stories about J. Edgar Hoover terrorizing political enemies with FBI investigations. The politics of harassment? Oh please Sacramento, we cannot let our politicians get away with this thuggery. Don't let our desires get in the way of ethics. This is just plain wrong.
