The owners of the Kings finally showed their hand this week, announcing a deal to sell the team to a group that intends to move it to Seattle next season.
Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson is fighting back, saying he will put together a group that will make a competitive offer to buy the Kings and keep them in town, putting the decision in the hands of the NBA and its 30 owners.
While the rich and powerful battle it out (not you, Maloofs), we've received numerous calls from fans asking what they can do to convince the NBA that the Kings shouldn't be moved.
Equally important is what Kings fans can do to persuade one or more "whales" to make an offer that the NBA can't refuse. One way to persuade Ron Burkle and Mark Mastrov to ante up is to fill Sleep Train Arena for the Kings' final 18 home games this season.
Instead of giving up and assuming the team is moving, instead of trying to punish the Maloofs by staying away, instead of vast rows of empty seats, how about packing the place to show support for the players, coaches and arena workers and to show Burkle, Mastrov and the league that Sacramento will support an NBA team, even one that might soon be leaving.
And, remember, the bottom line is the Maloofs will no longer own the Kings.
Isn't that reason enough to start packing the arena again?
