Re "Longtime tenant Brookstone leaves Downtown Plaza" (Business, Jan. 24): Rather than wasting years of time, energy and money on trying to keep The Kings -- a team with flaky owners and dwindling attendance -- how about Mayor Kevin Johnson and the rest of the city leadership focus on salvaging Downtown Plaza?
Resting at the heart of downtown, it has been slipping into disrepair and disuse for years. The departures of The Gap and Brookstone are the latest nails in its coffin.
The mall's outdated design creates a dark and unattractive hole in a place where a new retail center could enliven and bring some excitement to an area that desperately needs it. I'm sure residents of nearby cities like Davis and Woodland, as well as those of us that live closer to downtown than the Arden or Roseville malls, would make great use of a redesigned mall. Unlike a trip to see the Kings.
