Re "Tax haul outruns forecast" (Page A1, Jan. 23): Does anyone really think that the Legislature won't spend the $4 billion windfall of cash from taxpayers, or won't keep running us into debt?
Bee columnist Dan Walters writes about the Legislature bending the rules, like not printing bills for the public to read or convening briefly on a Friday before a holiday so they can collect their tax-free per diem. They add trailer bills to circumvent the normal process on controversial bills that the public would not approve. They refuse to state where they drive to, but charge the taxpayer for mileage reimbursement.
Our elected officials live by different rules than they expect us to live by. We have elected a group of people who change the laws to treat themselves like royalty. When will it stop?
