Re "Gun roundup saves lives" (Dan Morain, Jan. 20): Dan Morain's article was enlightening. As a gun rights person, I applaud the state's actions to remove guns from felons, mentally ill people and others.
However, one thing bothered me. Guns were taken from a convicted felon who was arrested but Dan said he thought the felon would serve no prison time. This gun toting felon should get a minimum of 10 years.
Sentences like this would make a statement, one that would get around and make these guys think a little before illegally possessing firearms. This approach worked in a city in Virginia where firearms related crimes dropped quickly and significantly.
