Re "Emotion not best guide in talks on on gun control" (Viewpoints, Jan. 20): Many thanks to retired Sheriff John McGinness for injecting some much-needed logic and reality into the debate surrounding President Barack Obama's so-called common sense gun control proposals.
Similar sentiments were thoughtfully expressed at Saturday's "Gun Appreciation Day" rally on the steps of the state capitol.
This is not the time to be rushing to enact ill-conceived gun and ammunition restrictions, based on emotion. Rather than trotting out children at emotion-packed publicity events, we need hard-focused, logic-based discussion of real solutions, not feel-good emotional measures with no historical effect, that only harass the law-abiding.
