Re "To repair government, look beyond Prop. 13" (Forum, Jan. 20): Joe Mathews, say hello to Jon Coupal of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association.
You two have much to discuss regarding government, taxation and Proposition 13.
Sadly, Mathews misses the point regarding Proposition 13. It came into being as a defense for homeowners against politicians' out-of-control spending policies.
Fast-forward to today. Nothing has changed. Incredibly, Proposition 30 passed and a balanced budget is allegedly within reach on the backs of taxpayers, and Gov. Jerry Brown is talking about more spending.
Higher taxes and more revenue are the worst things to give spending-addicted politicians. Until they kick the unlimited-spending habit, leave Proposition 13 alone. And woe to anyone in the new super majority who tries to mess with it.

• Don't use all capital letters. That's akin to yelling and not appreciated by the audience.
• Don't flag other users' comments just because you don't agree with their point of view. Please only flag comments that violate these guidelines.
