What: From sunrise to sunset, wetlands are in focus this weekend at Galt's sixth annual Winter Bird Festival. Sandhill cranes, Canada geese, tundra swans and other wetlands fowl are the stars of this annual festival, which offers tours, talks and tempting vendor tables.
When: Festival 8 a.m.-4 p.m.; start times for tours vary.

Cost: Entry to the festival is free; tour prices range from $15 to $75.

What: Get your giggle on at a free family concert by Sacramento-based singer/storyteller Francie Dillon and characters from Puppet Art Theater. It's said that nobody can get a crowd to hokey-pokey like Francie. And you just never know what a puppet might do.

Cornel West, 'Evening of Spiritual Inspiration'
What: Academic, activist, author (and John F. Kennedy High School alumnus) Cornel West returns to his native Sacramento to speak at Cosumnes River College in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Billed as an evening of spiritual inspiration, West's speech, "Resiliency of Righteousness: Cultivation of a Spiritual Warrior," is presented by the Martha Parker Academy Scholarship and co-sponsored by the Zeta Beta Lambda chapter of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.
When: 3 p.m. Sunday

Rita Hosking
What: If you want a sneak listen to Rita Hosking's yet-to-be-released country-folk album "Little Boat," turn out to one of two regional appearances this weekend. The Davis-based Hosking has paired with daughter Kora Feder for the new work.

Axiom Brass Quintet
What: The group has wowed audiences and judges all over the world. Now the Axiom Brass Quintet brings its musicality and precision to the California State University, Sacramento, New Millennium Concert Series. Expect anything from Latin to jazz and, of course, brass standards.
