Cordova High School will be the focus this weekend of the 29th annual Kick Off Tournament for rugby, an event that last year drew 137 teams from Oregon and California.
This year's event also includes a contingent of 100 people representing the Mavericks of Calgary, Canada. The overall tournament involves boys and girls ages 7 to 17.
The event hosted by the Sacramento Valley Rugby Foundation with the Sacramento Valley Youth Rugby Organization begins at 8 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday at the high school. The two organizations share the net proceeds, which go to a variety of charitable purposes tied to rugby and youth sports.
Team registrations have concluded. However, children ages 6 and 7 may be able to participate in ad hoc touch rugby events.
Parking is $5. There is no charge to spectators.
