Space, the living frontier

What: The Discovery Museum Science and Space Center offers the exhibit "Living in Space." What is an astronaut and what does one do? Learn more about astronauts and the work they do in space. Visitors can try on an astronaut costume and use glove boxes or perform simple science tasks. The planetarium's shows feature astronaut life and the International Space Station. Children through age 12 are invited to make an astronaut-themed craft to take home.

Where: 3615 Auburn Blvd., Sacramento

When: 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. both days. Planetarium shows at 1 and 3 p.m. both days for those 4 and older.

Cost: $8 general, $7 seniors 60 and older and teens 13 to 17; $6 children 4 to 12; free for members and children 3 and younger

What: The Northern California Home and Landscape Expo continues at Cal Expo, featuring 1,000 exhibit booths this weekend. More than 600 different companies fill Cal Expo buildings with wares. Event organizers note that the 2012 event drew 33,961 people during its three-day run.
