A slight storm system passed through the area on Saturday night, leaving behind snow showers and isolated rain lingering in the mountains and valley today and tomorrow.
But by Monday afternoon, sunny, dry weather, accompanied by some early morning fog, will settle in for most of the week.
Stefanie Henry, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Sacramento, said the weekend storm ushered in cold air and sprinkled between 1 and 5 inches of snow in the Sierra and spritzes of rainfall in the valley, a couple-hundredths of an inch in some areas.
"We got reports of snow at as low as 2,200 and 2,500 feet, but most of it was at the higher peaks," she said. Blue Canyon reported 5 inches of snow overnight, while Soda Springs, Boreal Ridge and Sugar Bowl Peak got about 4 inches.
Parts of the valley might feel some raindrops through Monday morning, Henry said, but nothing significant or widespread.
Beginning Monday, forecasters predict a dry, high-pressure system moving over the valley, bringing clear skies, colder nighttime temperatures and warmer daytime conditions, she said.
"There's no real threat of precipitation this week," Henry said. "We'll have some fog beginning after midnight that will fade when the sun comes out. We expect normal temperatures for this time of year."
Lows will hover in the mid-30s to low 40s, while high temperatures will reach the 60s by Tuesday.
