Re "Will women register for draft?" (Letters, Jan. 26): I had a hard time understanding the gist of the letter writer's point. Was she upset that her sons had to register for the Selective Service, or that women must now register?
Either way, her perspective has become symptomatic with the majority of our society, where only the poor, undereducated and mostly minorities consider the armed forces as a viable career. The fact that she felt "sort of sickened" to have her sons just register makes me wonder how many other parents feel that the protection of our nation and way of life should be in the hands of "others" and NOT something that all members of our society be taught to proudly embrace if they so choose to.
