Re "U.S. military can't fight without women" (Editorials, Jan. 25): The military is a killing machine. Women bear new life. The opening of combat jobs for women is a sign of deterioration in human civil society.
War is a sign of failure on many levels. A war response as opposed to a law-and-order response to terrorism increases terrorism. Like empires of old, this current military industrial empire is leading to decay within. We suffer this decay daily in spiraling budget deficits while basic human services get cut. The participation of women in combat does nothing to advance women or humankind. It is part of a greater tragedy called addiction to war.
