Re "California needs to aggressively engage youth in electoral process" (Viewpoints, Jan. 26): I was so glad to read Mindy Romero's column. We have been rightfully concerned with the global economy for several years, but now we must start the work on tomorrow's economy, making sure the young are prepared to take the lead.
With the passage of Proposition 30, there's finally hope that the underfunded schools in our state will receive the equal funding that should have been there all along. Teachers need quality resources at their disposal, and for the schools in poorer areas this has long been a problem. The economy is improving. Now it's time to bring back civics in education, even at the youngest ages. With a good grasp of government along with the three R's, there's no end to the possible accomplishments of our future electorate.
