Re "Cal Fire concealed cash, records show" (Page A4, Jan. 26) and "Prosecutors pass the buck on park funds" (Editorials, Jan. 26): Are you kidding? The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection hid $3.6 million. Cal Fire is charging people in the rural areas a "fee" of $150.
Those of us living in rural areas have objected to this charge. The fee is supposed to pay for educating communities about wildfires. We have fire protection for our structures through our local fire departments. The editorial calls on Attorney General Kamala Harris's office to follow up on the state parks "hidden funds." Same rules apply to Cal Fire. Let's see how many more government officials have knowingly kept false accounts of public money. If it's not a criminal matter let's try for accountability.
