Re "Kings' contribution unknown" (Letters, Jan. 28): The Kings' contribution to the local economy is known. The Sacramento Business Journal has reported that a downtown arena would generate $7 billion in economic impact over a 30-year period: $157 million annually to the region, including $100 million to downtown, 3.1 million new visitors to downtown annually, along with $5.8 million in sales taxes and $900,000 in hotel taxes.
Those numbers will explain why our local government is trying so hard to keep the Kings from leaving Sacramento. Like them or not, the Kings are a valuable asset to our economy.
