Sacramento County Supervisors voted this morning to approve some projects at Gibson Ranch but excluded some controversial ones, including the operator's plan to fill in irrigation ditches.
Last year was former U.S. Rep. Doug Ose's first full year of operating Gibson Ranch since the county awarded him a contract in 2011, in a controversial decision. Ose said he lost $90,000 last year operating the ranch.
Some area residents have complained about the condition of the ranch and Ose's plan to fill in the irrigation ditches, which they said would hurt the environment.
Ose said he has been fixing problems at the ranch since he took it over from the county and those efforts will continue.
Supervisors adopted a staff recommendation to not allow Ose to fill in the irrigation ditches. They also rejected his proposal to have carnivals and trade shows at the ranch.
The programs approved for the year include a pony theater and an area for radio controlled airplanes.
