Re "Voter suppression is GOP goal" (Letters, Jan. 29): The last time I checked, if it was not for the GOP, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 would have never been implemented yet alone passed. It was under the GOP and President Abraham Lincoln that slaves were emancipated in 1863, and the Democratic party fought every bill that was introduced by Republicans in the late 1800s to help blacks' quest for civil rights.
And I recall the Democrats attempting to suppress the military vote by not counting absentee ballots in 2004 in Florida. Which party has suppressed voting? Know your history.
