Re "Harris isn't the NFL's first -- or last -- gay player" (Leading Off, Jan. 29): The obnoxious manner in which Victor Contreras sniggers about Kwame Harris's unintentional coming out had all the maturity of a seventh-grade locker room. The column starts out fair enough with the critique of Harris's playing ability. I never followed Harris's career so I trust the judgment.
However, to then try to get cute about soy sauce on the rice and wearing the boyfriend's underwear is degrading and a cheap shot at the severity of the charges and allegations of this assault. Please keep in mind there is a victim in this alleged crime, someone who suffered some pretty severe injuries to his face. I am certain you would not have been so flippant with your description of a domestic violence assault had the victim been a woman.
