Re "Arm teachers, lawmaker says" (Capitol & California, Jan. 31): Thank you Assemblyman Tim Donnelly for figuring out how to get California teachers paid right. While on the surface your bill would appear to be about guarding students from violence, some of us can see through to your real idea: Getting hazard pay, good retirement benefits and second careers for all of our teachers!
Just think of it, the teacher unions will be able to justify huge salary and benefit increases because they have to work in admittedly hazardous conditions. Those who actually get paid to carry a gun will also be able to look forward to retirement after 20 years of service as public safety officers, and they can then move on to opportunities as bodyguards, private investigators, etc., all on the backs of California taxpayers. Genius!
