Re "49ers' defender not a fan of gays" (Sports, Jan. 31): Chris Culliver makes anti-gay statements and that's all we hear about -- how anti-gay he is and the harmful effects his statements have on the NFL and the 49ers. Why wasn't the interviewer, shock jock Artie Lange, also criticized for even asking Culliver what his thoughts were on gays on the team?
What did the question have to do with the upcoming Super Bowl and the teams' preparation? If there is to be any discipline issued to Culliver for his remarks, then Lange should be equally disciplined for asking such a ridiculous question.
On another note, why is this issue getting publicity and yet not one thing is mentioned of the morale-boosting visits by NFL players and cheerleaders around the world. My son is on base on Mt. Fuji and recently enjoyed a visit.
