Joseph Farms, the 67-year-old dairy and cheese-making business in Atwater in the San Joaquin Valley, has been presented with the Governors Environmental and Economic Leadership Award for its sustainable farming and cheese making.
Joseph E. Gallo founded the operation in 1946. Today, a third generation of the Gallo family makes Joseph Farms Cheese and other dairy products.
The award is billed as most prestigious environmental honor. It recognizes individuals, organizations and businesses for exceptional leadership in voluntary achievements that help conserve Californias resources, protect and enhance the environment and build public-private partnerships.
We are honored and pleased that the governor has recognized our commitment to sustainable practices, said CEO Mike Gallo. Sustainability is something my family and I are very passionate about.
The Atwater business uses various renewable energy practices to reduce dependence on fossil fuel, conserve resources and preserve the environment.
