Aloes are for lovers
Instead of roses, how about aloes?
The Ruth Bancroft Garden in Walnut Creek is hosting a special Lovers' Day Aloe Tour on Feb. 10 geared toward the garden's aloe collection.
According to organizers, "these winter bloomers put on a stunning show with colorful, dramatic flower stalks that rise above stern prickly succulents."
Three one-hour tours will be offered that day. Admission is $15 per person or $20 per couple and comes with hot drinks and little chocolates.
Tours start at 10:30 a.m., noon and 1:30 p.m. The garden, at 1552 Bancroft Road, Walnut Creek, is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call (925) 944-9352.
AUBURN
A Taste of Chocolate
Head up to Old Town Auburn on Feb. 10 for the annual A Taste of Chocolate event.
From noon to 3 p.m., visitors will be able to stroll through the streets of Old Town and sample exquisite artisan chocolates, with more than 20 merchants and chocolate purveyors on hand.
Tickets are on sale now at the Sun River Clothing Company in Old Town or can be purchased online at www.oldtownauburnca.com (scroll to bottom, click "tickets," follow instructions).

Hey, tiger, how about some 'Animal Amore'?
Make a date with the animals and learn a little about love.
The Animal Amore event at the Oakland Zoo will shine a light on the "amusing love lives of animals."
The zoo will provide all the wine, refreshments and other goodies. The event will be held Feb. 15 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Space is limited.

Fair for book lovers adds Asian exhibit
Who says print is dead? Old, maybe, but not dead.
The largest antiquarian book fair is coming to San Francisco on Feb. 15-17, with more than 220 booksellers from around the world showcasing their collections.
Books, maps and manuscripts will be on display, with some available for purchase. This year's fair will also feature a special exhibit on Asian books, including Chinese, Japanese and Korean prints from the eighth century.
The 46th California International Antiquarian Book Fair will be held at the Concourse Exhibition Center, 635 Eighth St., San Francisco, from 3 to 8 p.m. Feb. 15; 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Feb. 16; and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 17.
