Bella Vista High School edged Folsom High by one point to win Saturday's 2013 Academic Decathlon Super Quiz. Del Campo High finished third.
The event at Inderkum High School was part of the Sacramento County Academic Decathlon. The overall decathlon winner will be announced Wednesday night at a banquet at California State University, Sacramento.
Several area high schools carried on a spirited Super Quiz competition Saturday, with the theme being "Russia." Super Quiz scores accounted for roughly 10 percent of each team's total score in the overall competition.
The day began with individual and sometimes group tests.
Participants were quizzed on their understanding of more than 10 topics, including art and economics. Twenty-one teams participated in the scholastic event, with each team made up of a variety of students – those with "A" averages, "B" averages and "C" averages.
