Leading Off: Hard to believe, but there's life after NFL

Now that the Super Bowl party is over and all that's left are the veggie sticks, what is there to look forward to? We certainly have our choices:

• A's pitchers and catchers report to spring training in Scottsdale, Ariz., one week from today, with the defending world champion Giants reporting to Phoenix next Tuesday. Full team workouts begin for both Feb. 16-17, with the A's and Giants playing their first Cactus League games Feb. 23.

• The 62nd NBA All-Star Game is Feb. 17 at the Toyota Center in Houston. Unfortunately for Kings fans, the game – much like the playoffs – won't include a Sacramento representative for an eighth consecutive season. The Rising Stars (first- and second-year players) game and skill competitions won't have any Kings, either.

• The 55th running of the Daytona 500 is Feb. 24. While Matt Kenseth won last year's race, everybody will be chasing defending Sprint Cup champion Brad Keselowski.

• College basketball fans will break out the bracket sheets again in March as Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio State and North Carolina appear to be the favorites to reach the Final Four on April 6 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.

• Can't wait for the NFL season? You don't have to now that the league has become a year-round business with rookie camps, minicamps and offseason training activities. It all begins with the first round of the NFL draft on April 25.

• What could be better than Sports Illustrated's 50th swimsuit edition coming out on Feb. 12? Bite your tongue, Brent Musburger – it's been rumored that Katherine Webb (girlfriend of Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron) is one of the models.

What to watch

NBA, Kings at Utah, 6 p.m., CSNCA, NBA: It will be interesting to hear what the national broadcasters have to say about the Kings and their possible move to Seattle.

What to do

College basketball, Northern Arizona at Sacramento State, 7:05 p.m., the Nest: It's the first of three home games in six days.
