Re "Guns rule life in south area neighborhood" (Page A1, Feb. 3): Many of our poor live lives of fear, despite law enforcement's best efforts. These same people didn't necessarily agree with the "experts" that any local or federal gun bans would make them safer.
These bans ultimately deny those most in need their right to defend themselves. Lawful people obey new laws, but criminals do not -- that's why they're criminals. Criminals would actually welcome gun control, as it ensures defenseless victims; they continue using their guns, we lose the tools they fear most. Criminals never want to invade a home or rob a business if they risk death.
