Re "Military re-examines fitness tests" (Page A6, Feb. 2): The article notes that the Army requires a man to do at least 42 push-ups in 54 seconds but only requires a woman to complete 19 push-ups within the same time. Also required of males is a two-mile run to be finished in 15 minutes, but a female only has to finish the run in 18 minutes. How unfair.
When the women's movement" seeks parity with men, why then should there be a double standard here? If women want military combat roles should they not meet the same physical standards as their male counterparts?
