Re "Forums to air school closures" (Our Region, Jan. 27): I am a homeowner in Tahoe Park. I love this neighborhood. One of the nicest features, and a big selling point to buying a home here, is our elementary school. Now our quality of life and our neighborhood's well-being is being threatened. Sacramento City Unified School District has decided to close Tahoe Elementary School with no concern for the negative effects to our community.
The district has NO plan for the property if the school closes. It will quickly become a magnet for crime. The district has not considered alternatives to closure such as reduced facility use or community stakeholder involvement and is treating the citizens of Tahoe Park very badly. Why weren't we asked for our help or opinions? When schools close, property values drop and crime rises. This is a ham-handed, short-term budget solution that will reap long-term problems.
