Re "Court reporters ensure justice" (Letters, Feb. 5): It's a shame that the financial future of our courts has descended into a special interest war. Digital audio recording has been put into operation successfully in trial courts in a number of places. The most financially efficient solution uses persons with experience as transcribers. Our U.S. military and various public agencies use digital recordings. Equipment ranges from four-track up to 12-track.
Use of such modern approaches doesn't have to mean that courtroom reporters are fired. Their job simply morphs into a modern form. We need to use modern technology in our courts and soon.
