Re "Education's biggest problem: egalitarianism" (Viewpoints, Feb. 5): I agree 100 percent with Bruce Maiman that not every student needs to attend college. Thirty years ago at parent conferences, I was telling parents that not every student should be required to go to college.
I praised vocational training as an option, for example, to become an electrician, plumber or auto mechanic. All of these are worthwhile and respectful occupations. I was absolutely right. Five days ago I paid my mechanic $96 an hour to repair my car and he did a fantastic job.
