Re "Number of gun deaths since Sandy Hook" (Editorial cartoon, Feb. 5): Last Wednesday we said goodbye to a lifelong family friend. He was buried on what would have been his 53rd birthday. On Jan. 28, Dr. Ronald Gilbert entered an exam room of his Newport urology practice and was confronted by a patient he had never seen before, who then shot him several times in the chest fatally wounding him. He was a loving father, husband, brother, and friend as well as an outstanding physician and super mensch.
Thank you Jack Ohman for artfully conveying that gun violence continues to plague our nation and that comprehensive gun control laws demand to be addressed immediately by all of our elected officials. To not do so is tantamount to the elimination of a citizen's right to not have to live in fear and the failure to remember all those who die senselessly.
