A low pressure system is expected to usher in light precipitation today in Sacramento -- and a bit of snow in the Sierra and foothills.

In addition to the chance of showers today in the Sacramento region, the National Weather Service notes that there is a possibility of thunderstorms.

Look for rainfall amounts to range between a tenth and a quarter of an inch, except where a thundering downpour could add more, forecasters said.

Conditions are expected to clear on Friday, which is expected to be partly sunny and windy with gusts as high as 21 mph in Sacramento.

In the Sierra, the wintry weather could hamper driving today along Interstates 5 and 80 and along Highway 50, cautions the weather service.
