Continuing a general trend of year-over-year declines, in-state gasoline consumption in October totaled 1.22 billion gallons, down 1.1 percent from the same month in 2011, according to the latest statistics released today by the State Board of Equalization.
BOE said the average price of gasoline statewide in October 2012 was $4.46 per gallon, a 14.6 percent increase from the year-ago period.
Diesel consumption in California in October totaled 235 million gallons, which was a nearly 4 percent increase over 226 million gallon in October 2011.
BOE said the average price of diesel statewide in October was $4.09 a gallon, up about 7 percent over the previous-year average.
Diesel fuel use is considered an indicator of commercial trucking activity in the state.
