Chasing the muse

Funk rock in the night

What: Martin Luther says his music is "just soul" that's revolutionary. Others might find other words to describe his velvety vocals, hot guitar work and poetic lyrics. You can check out this San Francisco choirboy-turned-rocker in a club setting and worry later about how to label his musical talent.

Cost: $15

Information:; (916) 441-4693

Satisfy a sweet tooth

Dessert Auction

What: The Davis Musical Theatre Company heard that the way to someone's heart is through the stomach: thus, its third annual Valentine's Dessert Auction fundraiser. You can bring something sweet to add to the evening or bid on one of the offered desserts. They brag about the "amazing array of cakes." There will be entertainment and free lemonade and coffee. Alcoholic beverages can be purchased from the bar.

Mardi Gras

Laissez les bon temps rouler!

What: You need not wait for Fat Tuesday. Don beads and a mask and saunter on down to the river for the Old Sacramento Mardi Gras celebration with live music, laughs, food and drinks. A purchased wristband will get you entry to all the music and preferred service at a dozen bars and restaurants.

Make 'em laugh

Paul Reiser

What: Comedian and actor Paul Reiser (remember "Mad About You?") returns to stand-up comedy. "It's embarrassing how much fun I'm having," he says. Steve Hytner opens the show, which is in cooperation with the "Laughter Is the Best Medicine" program of Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital.

When: 8 p.m. Saturday

Where: The Center for the Arts, 314 W. Main St., Grass Valley

Ice show

Princesses on ice

What: Freeze the water, cue the lights and let the imagination glide as Rapunzel, Tiana and Cinderella skate their way through "Dare to Dream" adventures with princes, frogs and glass slippers. One dream come true: Tylerann Farley (who learned to skate at Iceland Arena) makes her hometown debut as part of the Disney ensemble.
