Re "Why Barack Obama is the most radical president in U.S. history" (Viewpoints, Feb. 7): Just what motivates Charles A. Hummer to try to breathe life into the soundly discredited claim that Barack Obama is the most radical president in history?
He must know that Obama's health care initiative was modeled after the one Mitt Romney implemented in Massachusetts. Efforts to address broadly held views about the threat of man-made climate change with cap-and-trade were once supported by some notable conservatives. "Radical" was a previous Republican administration that lied to us and led us into a war of choice, put it on a credit card and lowered taxes in the face of rising deficits. "Radicals" are Republican states that gerrymander districts to bolster shrinking support, maneuver to suppress minority vote and intrude on women's reproductive rights. And it wasn't an appeal for radical change that returned Obama to office last November.
