Re "Why Barack Obama is the most radical president in U.S. history" (Viewpoints, Feb. 7): Charles A. Hummer believes Barack Obama is the most radical president ever and cites Obamacare, energy, and deficits to support his opinion. The core piece of Obamacare -- the individual mandate -- was something Republicans supported until Obama adopted it. Yes, Obama believes in global warming -- just as virtually all scientists in all relevant fields. Apparently proposing $9 in cuts for every $1 in new revenue during negotiations in 2011 isn't conservative enough.
If Hammer's litany represents radicalism in American politics, apparently the only thing that wouldn't be radical is toeing the tea party line on every issue of importance. Unfortunately for Hammer, there was an election in November and the tea party idea was soundly defeated.
