Re "Stage set for papal struggle" (Page A1, Feb. 12): I ask all Christians to offer a prayer of gratitude for the faithful service of Pope Benedict XVI, who has been a selfless steward of Christian faith.
There should be no stage, no strategies, and no struggle in this transition, only stewardship and selflessness. Benedict, whose resignation was rejected by Pope John Paul II many years ago, has tirelessly served as the a servant of the servants of God.
He resigns, not out of strategy, but out of service to the church, which he believes needs a younger stronger man in the Chair of Peter. Let us pray for the successor to Pope Benedict XVI, and that our own elected officials would be inspired by his example to stewardship of our Constitution and our country.
