Needy Sacramento and Yolo county cat owners can take advantage of deep discounts on spaying and neutering services next month as part of "Spay Day Sacramento," animal welfare groups announced this week.
Cats of residents who receive public assistance or have annual incomes of $35,000 or less can get their felines spayed or neutered for just $15 on March 3. Proof of public assistance or income is required.
Each cat will receive surgery, vaccinations, a dose of flea medicine and an identification chip. The normal cost of such services typically is around $250, animal advocates said.
The annual Spay Day event is organized by the Sacramento Area Animal Coalition, a nonprofit group dedicated to curbing pet overpopulation.
Qualified pet owners can apply for a Spay Day appointment at www.sacanimal.org. Applications for appointments will not be accepted by telephone.
