Re "Obama offers plan to rebuild America" (Page A1, Feb. 13): As an independent, I was excited to hear Sen. Marco Rubio explain what Republicans propose to do to reduce the deficit, put more Americans to work, repair our infrastructure, and reduce gun violence in our nation.
These were proposals that President Barack Obama made in his State of the Union speech.
It was a perfect time for the GOP to sell America on its bold, new ideas. Was I ever disappointed. All Rubio could do was tell us what couldn't be done. There was nothing new in his speech. He continued to hammer home the idea that big government was bad for the economy and the middle class.
We can expect progress, when the Republicans in Congress come up with new proposals and stop saying what can't be done. Let's hope it happens soon.
