Re "CIA nominee needs to justify drone campaign" (Editorials, Feb. 7): Both in 2008 and 2012 I voted for Barack Obama. I'd probably vote the same way today, but I have grave misgivings about the overuse -- even misuse -- of drones in the Middle East.
Those drones are military weapons, pure and simple. They function as bombers aimed at potential terrorists. It seems not to seriously trouble the Obama administration that we've also slaughtered civilians, including children, whose deaths are written off as "collateral damage."
Our national image, already in tatters in that part of the world, is further damaged. As a nation, we're profoundly shocked by the killings of 20 children at Sandy Hook Elementary, and appropriately so. But we shrug off the deaths of children in countries such as Pakistan and Yemen. What sense does that make?
