Aid for burn survivors

What: A busy Citrus Heights intersection will serve as a fundraising hub for firefighters, who will ask passing motorists to help fill their boots to aid burn survivors. This year's "Fill the Boot" drive will support the Firefighters Burn Institute.

The nonprofit organization was founded by Sacramento Area Firefighters Local 522 in 1973 to establish a local burn treatment facility; provide recovery programs for burn survivors; promote fire and burn prevention through public education; fund education for burn team professionals, firefighters and burn survivors; and support burn treatment and rehabilitation. A free safety fair also is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today outside at Sunrise Mall.

Where: Intersection of Sunrise Boulevard and Greenback Lane, Citrus Heights.

When: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Sunday; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday.

Cost: Donations welcomed.

Family House fundraiser

What: The semiformal 21st annual Red and White Ball at the Dante Club will entertain guests and raise funds for the Kiwanis Family House. There will be a dinner buffet, raffle prizes, silent auction and dancing to a DJ.

Where: 2330 Fair Oaks Blvd., Sacramento.

When: Cocktails 6 p.m., dinner 7 p.m.

Cost: Tickets are $45.

What: The Premier Orchestra of the Sacramento Youth Symphony will join forces with the Firebird Youth Chinese Orchestra of San Jose for a "Good Fortune" concert at Hiram Johnson High School. Works by Gordon Lee and Pablo Ortiz will be performed.

Where: 6879 14th Ave., Sacramento.

When: 7 to 9 p.m.

Cost: $15 general; $10 for seniors and students; free for children 10 and younger.

Carnaval in midtown

What: Carnaval 2013 will be celebrated with a host of activities at the YWCA in Sacramento. Entertainers will include Tambores Julio Remelexo with Palvara, two female drummers and special guest singers from Bahia, Brazil. Guests are encouraged to come dressed in Carnaval style.

Where: 1122 17th St., Sacramento.

When: Doors open at 8 p.m.

Cost: $15 in advance, $20 at the door.
