Re "Digging in for quarry fight" (Page A1, Feb. 17): These same developers wrangled approval of the Gold Rush Ranch next to Sutter Creek with 1,300 homes, doubling the town's population outside the city boundaries and destroying the hilly oak woodlands which is the city's primary tourist attraction.
Gold Rush Ranch divided Sutter Creek, pitting neighbor against neighbor, and made all kinds of promises that have yet to materialize. A No on Gold Rush ballot in June 2010 lost by 16 votes, many by non-residents. The recession slowed Gold Rush Ranch. With the market improving we are concerned that Gold Rush Ranch will become reality and ruin Sutter Creek, like the Newman Ridge project will negatively impact Ione.
