Re "Cities connect on two bridge projects" (Page A1, Feb. 18): As a resident of Southport, I find myself struggling to understand why boosting the riverfront district or other waterfront areas, which are not even populated yet, seems to be the main focus of West Sacramento leaders.
It is noteworthy that Southport has helped to drive the City to what it is today, a desirable and successful community, but Southport, because of its distance from downtown, has seemed to be the mountain already climbed. Have you forgotten that there are thousands of us faced with no direct access to I-5 or I-80?
There is something to be said about giving the people who are carrying the businesses of West Sac on their backs a bridge that could decrease commute time, help decongest Jefferson Boulevard and most importantly, save lives, if and when the levees break.
